The city of Bastrop is located about thirty miles southeast of Austin, it is part of the Greater Austin metropolitan area with easy access to Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas.

The Bastrop Independent School District (BISD) covers the City of Bastrop and much of the surrounding area. With the beautiful Colorado River running through the city, it is conveniently situated just 30 miles southeast of Austin, 100 miles northeast of San Antonio, and 130 miles west of Houston.
Bastrop ISD serves nearly 11,000 students from the communities of Bastrop, Cedar Creek, Paige, Red Rock, Rockne, and vast rural areas of Bastrop County. There are currently two comprehensive high schools, an early college high school, and a nontraditional online high school. Two middle schools, two intermediate schools, and six elementary schools. Bastrop ISD also operates two licensed childcare facilities at Cedar Creek Elementary and Emile Elementary.
With the implementation of House Bill 5 passed by the Texas Legislature in 2013, Bastrop ISD has created a number of Career Pathways for students, including automotive, agriculture, business, construction, culinary arts, health sciences, and STEM-based programs. In the future, EMT, AWS welding, and AutoCAD certifications will also be offered.
