Dripping Springs Regional Information
Situated 25 miles southwest of Austin in Texas Hill Country, the city of Dripping Springs is in Hays County and is characterized by its rolling hills, abundant wildlife, rocky creeks and beautiful views. Offering its residents the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed, rural lifestyle, the community remains conveniently close to downtown Austin and its many amenities. Most properties within the community are ranch-style homes situated on spacious plots of land, with prices typically being a bit more affordable than those found in the city of Austin.  Dripping Springs is located in Hays County at the intersection of Highway290 and Ranch Road 12. 

Dripping Spring’s modern history dates back to the 1850s, at which time three families moved from Mississippi to Texas. The group came upon the area that is now known as Wallace Mountain and claimed the spot as their home. Despite being located only 30 miles from the capital of Texas, the area was still considered to be a part of the frontier. The first postmaster, John Moss, was appointed on June 5, 1857. It was at this time that the community was officially named Dripping Springs in honor of the dripping springs at a branch of the Edwards Aquifer. The community soon became a stagecoach stop and part of a freight line that ran between Fredericksburg and Austin.

Dripping Springs Education
The Dripping Springs community is served by the award-winning Dripping Springs Independent School District (ISD). The district, which serves approximately 5000 students, offers a comprehensive curriculum based on achieving the highest student achievement.
and is designed to promote student excellence and is structured to guarantee student success. Currently, the District operates five campuses along with a central administrative office, a special education cooperative, and separate transportation and support service facilities.

The District maintains an average teacher/pupil ratio of 15.9 for all grades. Outstanding academic and extracurricular activities are available to all students. Students routinely participate and excel in U.I.L. competition. The Texas Education Agency has rated the District Recognized in the Accountability Rating System for the 2009-2010 school year. The schools are the center of the community, and parents and other community members actively support the schools through PTO/PTA and volunteer programs. Parents and the public are kept well-informed of educational activities through two local newspapers, a variety of parent organizations and school board activities.

The district is only one of seven in the state to be recognized by the AP Board Honor Roll. The school has also received a five-star rating form the Texas Comptroller and has a 99 percent graduation rate, with 93 percent going on to college. The district’s elementary schools include Dripping Springs Elementary School, Walnut Springs Elementary School, Rooster Springs Elementary School, Dripping Springs Middle School and Dripping Springs High School.

And for those looking for higher education, Austin Community College, Concordia Lutheran College, St. Edward’s University, Texas State University and the University of Texas at Austin are just short drive away from Dripping Springs. There are also numerous career colleges and technical schools located in the central Texas area.

Among these is Hamilton Pool, which is a natural grotto located just off of the Pedernales River.
